Stamford, CT

Children’s Names: Matilda

Gestation:   24.4 weeks
Weight: 1 lb 8 oz
Days in Hospital: 99 days
Date of Birth:  2015

Carrie’s preemie Matilda was born at Greenwich Hospital at 24 weeks. After a difficult pregnancy that included five weeks bedrest and a cerclage at 18 weeks, Matilda was born via emergency c-section resulting from a devastating and sudden placental abruption. Matilda is now a healthy and happy 7 year old, who loves playing with her big sister, going to school, reading books, Minnie Mouse, playgrounds and swimming.

After being born at Greenwich, she was transferred same day to the NICU at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in NYC. There she suffered from complications including a double lung collapse, a PDA, and an infection. She required multiple blood transfusions and a laser procedure on her eyes to reverse severe ROP.  Today she can see great with her glasses, and after therapy for a speech delay, is a total chatter box!  Her parents are grateful to everyone who helped care for her and can’t believe that she is the walking, talking lovable little miracle that she turned out to be. They say she certainly has lived up to the meaning of her name: “strength in battle.”
