CELEBRATING THE LIVES OF PREEMIES AND
HONORING A REMARKABLE DOCTOR HIGHLIGHTED
THE JOURNEY THROUGH A MIRACLE GALA
Darien, CT – November 20, 2018: In honor of Prematurity Awareness Month, The Tiny Miracles Foundation held their 13th annual gala on November 3, 2018 at the Country Club of Darien. The annual event raises funds to benefit the families of premature babies in Fairfield County and beyond with one on one parent mentoring, financial assistance services, and continued emotional and personal support of parents and preemies post NICU.
An estimated 3,338 babies are born prematurely each year in Connecticut. TTMF is the only organization in Fairfield County that offers in hospital mentoring and other essential assistance to families faced with challenges of premature birth.
This year’s gala honored Dr. Richard R. Viscarello, Attending Physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Stamford Hospital and President / Medical Director of Maternal Fetal Care, PC in Stamford, Connecticut for his dedication, passion and care for his patients.
Co-chair of the Gala, Ashley Mayhew Dineen said, “It was an especially memorable evening for me to be able to honor Dr. Viscarello because without him, my twin daughters would not be here today.”
PJ Marcella, a co-chair of the Gala as well, said, “It was a magical evening. We are so grateful for the generosity of those who sponsored and attended the Gala this year. The evening went beyond our expectations.”
TTMF provides an array of direct services to families in Connecticut’s Fairfield County and beyond. Whether it’s bedside mentoring by trained volunteers who have travelled the same NICU journey; emotional support by TTMF’s Director of Family Services; the Tiny Treasurers program (which includes bonding dolls and blankets to cover isolettes for help in the baby’s development); or the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) that provides everything from gas cards and parking passes so that parents can visit their babies in the NICU, breast pumps so moms can provide their fragile babies with “liquid gold,” baby necessities like car seats and strollers, to prominent help with utility, rent and mortgage payments; the Foundation provides for families in need with the unexpected birth of their fragile preemie.
Executive Director of The Tiny Miracles Foundation, George Colabella, says, “The Tiny Miracles Foundation serves as a beacon of light for the most vulnerable members of our communities. In extending support to these tiny miracles and their families, we are providing the gift of hope. There is no greater gift to be made than that of a belief in tomorrow and the future.”
