Guest Authors Share Journeys as Mothers of Premature Babies at An Evening of Reflection & Discussion

WESTPORT, CONN., March 10, 2014 — More than 40 guests, most the mothers of premature babies and other supporters of The Tiny Miracles Foundation, shared an intimate evening last week with authors Jennifer Degl and Kasey Mathews. The two women,  both mothers of very premature babies,  shared the tumultuous journeys that followed the births of their daughters in their insightful and moving books, From Hope to Joy: A Memoir of a Mother’s Determination and Her Micro-preemie’s Struggle to Beat the Oddsand Preemie: Lessons of Life, Love and Motherhood. Their memoirs detail the story of how they brought every ounce of determination they could muster to their babies, and their own, fight for survival. Most attendees had dealt with similar situations, and shared the feelings they experienced during their preemies’ months in area hospitals’ Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and in their first months at home.

The special program was presented by The Tiny Miracles Foundation at the Westport Arts Center. Headquartered in Darien, TTMF is dedicated to providing vital support and assistance to families with premature babies in the greater Fairfield County area, and to helping the medical community provide the best possible care for premature babies and their families. TTMF is now in its ninth year of providing critical support to families facing the crisis of premature birth through programs and services at Bridgeport, Danbury, Norwalk and Stamford Hospitals, as well as to the preemie community at large. The Foundation is currently bringing programs to neighboring towns so that more people become aware of its vital work. In addition to this event, their annual fundraising gala, “A Night of Miracles” is scheduled in Westport May 2nd. All programs and materials are offered in English and Spanish and are free-of-charge to families.
