SUMMARY:Maternal Mental Health: Navigating the NICU
DESCRIPTION:Join The Tiny Miracles Foundation and our panel of experts in Maternal Mental Health.\n\nThrough our peer parent mentoring program\, The Tiny Miracles Foundation recognizes the importance and need for support of maternal mental health when babies are born premature and spend time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). This was the catalyst for the development of the foundation and an area we work to support hospitals around given the need for more support of caregivers\, specifically mothers\, when they experience the traumatic pre-term birth and NICU stay of their child(ren).\nThis FREE training is intended for our parent support mentors\, hospital NICU staff and social workers and will provide information on maternal mental health needs\, warning signs\, ways to respond to a mental health crisis\, and appropriate ways to interact with families during an ongoing traumatic situation.\n2 continuing education credits are being offered (pending approval). Please indicate your request for credit in your RSVP below.

SUMMARY:Birth Trauma Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Mondays 12:00 to 1:00 PM\nTiny Miracles office with Zoom option available if needed\n1540 Post Road\, 2nd floor\nDarien\, CT\n \n\nTo support all mothers in our community\, Tiny Miracles will be hosting a FREE weekly birth trauma counseling group this Fall for 8 weeks. We recognize that 1 in 3 individuals experience traumatic births characterized by extreme physical\, emotional\, or psychological distress. It is important to call out that it is the woman’s perception of her trauma that determines the diagnosis. Traumatic childbirth increases risk for postpartum depression (PPD)\, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)\, psychosis\, and anxiety.\n\nThis counseling support group is open to all women who had a traumatic birth\, whether or not they had a NICU experience. We will be meeting at the Darien office every Monday at 12 PM beginning September 30 and ending November 18. There is an option to join virtually via Zoom should that be more convenient for you.\n\nThis support group will be led by Lindsay Quinlan\, MA Candidate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wake Forest University\, who is a member of the Tiny Miracles family and has personal birth trauma and NICU experience.\n\nShould you wish to join this counseling group\, please RSVP below or email jenniferjohnson@ttmf.org and we will follow up with more information. We ask that only individuals who can commit to attending this group weekly – either virtually or in person for the 8 weeks – reach out. It is important that members commit to attending weekly so as to foster group cohesion for maximum benefit to everyone in the group.
