This past Saturday, Westport’s expanded Maker Faire featured the work of local nonprofits, organizations that provide valuable services and support within Fairfield County, CT.

One organization, The Tiny Miracles Foundation based in Darien, showcased how they hand-make fleece blankets which are distributed to local Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Fairfield County hospitals.  These blankets are a tool for nurses to keep the incubators dark and quiet, which helps the brain development of these fragile babies.  Blankets serve as a visual guide to the parents who arrive in a crowded room of incubators to find their baby.  These comforting blankets, cherished by families long after their NICU stay, are made by hand by middle school students in Darien each year.  Last year, over 500 blankets were distributed by The Tiny Miracles Foundation (TTMF).

TTMF assists over 1,200 local preemie families per year through financial and psychosocial support programs at five partner hospitals: Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, Danbury, and most recently, St. Vincent’s Medical Center.  To learn more about The Tiny Miracles Foundation or to volunteer, please go to www.ttmf.org or call the office at 203-202-9714.
