Guest Speakers Natalie Hiromi Brito, developmental psychologist and Associate Professor at NYU, and Erin O’Connor, Professor in Teaching and Learning at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, will be joining us.
Natalie Hiromi Brito is developmental psychologist and Associate Professor at New York University (NYU). She is also the director of the Infant Studies of Language and Neurocognitive Development (ISLAND) Lab where her research explores how social and cultural contexts shape the trajectory of brain and behavioral development, with the goal of better understanding how to best support caregivers and create environments that foster healthy child development. Specifically, her ongoing studies examine how both proximal factors (e.g., caregiver mental health, caregiver-child interactions) and distal influences (e.g., social policies) impact the development of attention, memory, and socioemotional skills during infancy and toddlerhood.
Erin O’Connor is a Professor in Teaching and Learning at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, and Program Leader for Early Childhood. She is also Chief of Education at Cooper and co-founder of Nested where her research explores the roles of social interactions in development with the aim of designing systems that better support children and families. Currently, she is working on a large-scale study examining the correlates and consequences of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMADS) among birthing and non-birthing parents.
