PEOPLE FROM THROUGHOUT FAIRFIELD COUNTY
FILLED THE WESTON LIBRARY FOR IT’S ONE-NIGHT
ONLY SPECIAL EXHIBIT – ARTWORK BORN AHEAD OF IT’S TIME
Darien, CT – December 1, 2018: In an effort to bring attention to World Prematurity Awareness, The Tiny Miracles Foundation (TTMF) hosted a one-of-a-kind Art Show on Friday, November 30th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Weston Public Library, 56 Norfield Rd. in Weston. Called Artwork Born Ahead of its Time, the show featured the nation’s first artwork created by preemies – including infants in the NICU, preschoolers, school-aged children, and adults.
The Art Exhibit, which is in its fourth year, is the only art show in the United States where the artwork is entirely created by preemies – both infants in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and those children and adults who were born prematurely. The Exhibit drew a diverse crowd from throughout Fairfield County, including families of preemies who are now in their teen years and parents who currently have preemies in the NICU.
Marisela Esposito, President of the Board of TTMF, creator of the Art Exhibit, and also a mom of a preemie, says, “Having had a preemie myself, I find that this event allows us to connect and be surrounded by many families who have traveled the same journey. Having older preemies share their art at the Exhibit gives incredible hope to the families whose Tiny Miracles are currently in the NICU. And just as importantly, having the Art Exhibit during World Prematurity Awareness brings much needed attention to the public regarding the long road that families face and the tremendous needs that they have, not only while their baby is in the NICU, but even after they bring their child home.”
TTMF provides an array of direct services to families in Connecticut’s Fairfield County and beyond. Whether it’s bedside mentoring by trained volunteers who have travelled the same NICU journey; emotional support by TTMF’s Director of Family Services; the Tiny Treasurers program (which includes bonding dolls and blankets to cover isolettes for help in the baby’s development); or the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) that provides everything from gas cards and parking passes so that parents can visit their babies in the NICU, breast pumps so moms can provide their fragile babies with “liquid gold,” baby necessities like car seats and strollers, to prominent help with utility, rent and mortgage payments; the Foundation provides for families in need with the unexpected birth of their fragile preemie.
Executive Director of The Tiny Miracles Foundation, George Colabella, says, “The Tiny Miracles Foundation serves as a beacon of light for the most vulnerable members of our communities. In extending support to these tiny miracles and their families, we are providing the gift of hope. There is no greater gift to be made than that of a belief in tomorrow and the future.”
The Tiny Miracles Foundation (TTMF) is a nonprofit charity based in Fairfield County, Connecticut dedicated to helping families with premature babies through compassionate care and support. Their services and programs are provided in the neonatal units of Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, and Danbury Hospitals and at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, their newest partnership. The Tiny Miracles Foundation is a non-profit organization that reaches over 1,200 preemie families in Fairfield County, CT and beyond.
